EPA HydroNet - Data Quality
SPOT CHECKS
With a view to improving the processing of the data, staff from the Environmental Protection Agency maintain quality control procedures by carrying out quality control spot checks from time to time. The user should also undertake any independent quality control and verification procedures appropriate to the proposed use of any data taken from this website to ensure that it is fit for purpose. To this end, all source data are available for inspection, by prior arrangement, at our Dublin Regional Inspectorate Offices, Richview, Dublin 14. To arrange to inspect the data, you should contact our staff using the telephone numbers given above.
GAPS IN THE WATER LEVEL RECORD
With both the autographic chart recorder and data loggers, the equipment can malfunction or breakdown and there can therefore be gaps in the records provided for processing. These gaps must be taken into account when evaluating the data, and, in particular, when examining critical peak or low water levels or flows. There may also be gaps in the flow record due to periods of no rating, unreliable rating, channel works in progress (e.g. maintenance works, drainage works) etc. If there is a gap in a water level record, there will be a corresponding gap in the flow record.
